A Bit of Everything at Krone Farms
Pine trees, pigs, and produce. For four generations, the Krone family has been farming just about everything.
"My grandpa, when he was starting out they always had cattle," Ellie Krone of Krone Farms said. "Then it got into pigs, and we still do the pigs, and my dad started doing Christmas trees about 20 years ago."
Although it may only be the beginning of August, Christmas tree preparations have already started.
"My dad and I use--it's a razor-sharp machete," Ethan Krone said. "And we go through and trim every tree, and my sister will usually go behind us and use head shears and she'll finish up the top and do the top to make it look pretty."
They're trimming each tree so they are in tiptop shape for the holidays.
"That's usually about a month-long process for us," Ethan Krone said. "It's a lot of early mornings and long days."
And if you're waiting for their white spruce trees in the winter, it's not too late to try their summer sweet corn.
"Sweet corn is definitely our biggest sell," Ellie Krone said. "People say we have the best sweet corn around, so people keep coming back for that every year."
With three acres of sweet corn and more than 5,000 trees, we can't forget about their 200 pigs.
"We are a fair to finish operation," Ethan Krohe said. "We raise them and then in the end we sell them to producers. I like the pigs. I like messing with the pigs."
And for Ellie Krone, who has been farming her entire life, she wouldn't have it any other way.
"I just love the atmosphere of the county, and I love the farm life," Ellie Krone said. "The neighbors--everyone just helps everyone out. It's a little farm community."
